Tuesday, January 18, 2011 - More changes to getting a mortgage in Canada!

Yesterday, the Federal Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty announced that they will be making even more changes to the finance rules in Canada.   Last year CMHC had announced changes to the lending guidelines which created an early surge in the housing market.  It will be interesting to see, and I would not be surprised, if these changes have a similar affect this year!  With affordable prices, lots of selection and a small amount of time to take advantage of a 35 year mortgage, those buyers that ... Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - 'Boring is Good!' At least when it comes to Real Estate & the Economy.

To start off the year of predictions and forecasts, I attended the 2011 Housing Forecast seminar at the Shaw Conference center this morning. The seminar features a number of speakers that give us a peak into what may come in the upcoming year with regards to the economy and, of course, real estate. As you can imagine, this can be a tricky thing to do and many of these predictions strongly depend on a number of ?ifs?, but these guys know better than I do with what?s to come. The overall message ... Full Article...

Friday, January 7, 2011 - Global News Interview from January 5, 2011

On January 5, I was interviewed by Erin Chalmers with Global News in Edmonton with regards to the recent announcement from the city that property prices were approximately 9% above the city's assessed value. The concern is that those wanting to sell their home will automatically assume that prices can be set 9% higher than what their assessed value shows. I do expect that there will be some uneducated sellers that will think that they can do this, however your market value is not the same as ... Full Article...

Sunday, January 2, 2011 - Will housing prices go up or down: it depends on how you look at it.

Another good article that was posted by the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton.  You can read the article below, or view it online by Clicking Here. Will housing prices go up or down: it depends on how you look at it. They say that figures never lie. Mark Twain also commented that there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Where will housing prices go in the next year. The best indication of future performance is past performance. As we look at the year end figures it is helpful to plot a trend ... Full Article...
